Master of Education (Educational Foundations)

Vision

To achieve a high-level academic and educational aims by providing a sound educational thought in accordance with the tenets and provisions of Islam and to prepare specialized researchers who will chart the course in using knowledge to advance, promote and serve humanity in the field of Foundation of Education at master’s and doctorate levels respectively.

Mission

  1. To provide a holistic education using modern means and methods in educating the knowledge-seekers and enable them to participate actively in teaching, research, educational consulting services and contribute to the development of society and human civilization.

Objective

  1. The programme objective of this programme is to educate and train students to become graduates who are able to:

    PO1) make judgments of relevant theories and practices in the field of Educational Foundations and demonstrate capability of producing new and creative knowledge in order to be effective and inspiring professionals;
    PO2) critically analyse, and synthesize the understanding global educational systems, modern educational ideology and professional practices to solve significant problems;
    PO3) plan and execute innovative projects, research initiatives and write dissertations, theses and reports for the purpose of building and applying knowledge for the benefit of the profession and society as a whole;
    PO4) demonstrate capabilities in generating and communicating knowledge effectively the historical changes in the landscape of education across the world through the practice of life-long learning and life-long contribution;
    PO5) lead and participate in knowledge generation and in championing intellectual property rights and acknowledgments of original works by others, guarding against plagiarism and other academic improprieties; and
    PO6) acquire general knowledge and develop diverse educational specializations, individual talents and potentialities in the field of Foundations of Education.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Learning Outcomes
    At the end of the programme the graduates should be able to:
    LO1) Apply and integrate knowledge relating to current research issues in foundations of education;
    LO2) Apply research techniques to acquire, interpret and extend educational knowledge in foundations of education;
    LO3) Demonstrate the capability to communicate, lead and work together in building new knowledge;
    LO4) Synthesize advanced knowledge and engage in problem solving and scientific skills;
    LO5) Demonstrate the capabilities and dispositions to work as engaged professional educators in building learning communities into the future;
    LO6) Design and conduct research professionally and ethically; and
    LO7) Continuously, incrementally and cumulatively develop encyclopedic general knowledge and diverse individual talents and potentialities.
    LO8) Apply findings of research to offer an alternative solution to mitigate the problems in both immediate and larger society

Entry Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s Degree of Education in related fields from any recognized university; or
  2. Other qualifications recognized as equivalent by the Government of Malaysia.
  3. Open entry is not less than 35 years old with a minimum of five (5) years working experience in the relevant field and Passed the Certificate of Higher Education Malaysia (STPM) / Matriculation / equivalent qualification.

Language

Arabic Language:

Applicants interested to enroll in programmes where the medium of instruction is in Arabic must pass the MEDIU’s Arabic Language Placement Test (MAPT) before being admitted to the programme.

English Language:

Since the medium of instruction of this program is in English, all applicants must meet the English language requirement before being admitted to the programme. Examples include:

  1. Having English as their mother tongue.
  2. Substantially worked or studied in an English-speaking country (such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the United States).
  3. English language proficiency exam with a minimum overall band score of 550 in TOEFL or 5.5 in IELTS.
  4. A minimum overall band score of 4.00 in MEDIU’s English Language Placement Test (MUET).
  5. Any other qualification which is of equivalent level as determined by the Senate of the University.

A: Research

The applicant is required to study a subject named Research Methodology, then the applicant can start the research under the supervision of an academic member of the Postgraduate Studies Department.
