Objective

  1. Improve students’ critical thinking ability and build the vital skills to conduct quality research within the Economic area of their interest that have practical or theoretical implications.
  2. Enhance students’ capabilities in conceptual thinking of interpersonal and communicating skills and in the use of analytical methods required for effective diagnosis of theories, concepts and technique in economics field in order to prepare students to become researchers in various fields of Economics.
  3. Prepare students for advanced research and knowledge at a Master’s level.
  4. Develop the social responsibility and interactive skills of students.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Utilize scientific research methods to acquire, interpret and extend knowledge in the field of economics in general and in the chosen project topic in particular.
  2. Communicate and function effectively as a team member.
  3. Use references and citation without plagiarism; report and effectively present quantitative and qualitative research findings.
  4. Demonstrate awareness of issues relating to the society and humanity; and act according to the codes of professional ethics and responsibilities.
  5. Demonstrate entrepreneurship and managerial skills, as well as insights into the enabling nature of the gained key (transferable) skills in other work environments and the range of opportunities within and outside the field.

Entry Requirements

  1. i. Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 of 4.00 or equivalent as accepted by the HEP’s Senate; or
    ii. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent with above CGPA 2.50 but not attain CGPA 2.75 of 4.00 is admissible subject to HEP’s internal assessments (through test evaluation, interviews or portfolios); or
    iii. Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent but did not attain CGPA 2.50 from 4.00 can be admitted subject to minimum of five (5) years working experience in relevant fields; or
    iv. Other qualifications recognized as equivalent by the Government of Malaysia.

    English requirements
    Candidates who wish to enter a program which medium of instruction is English language must pass the English Language Qualification (TOEFL: 550 / IELT: 5.5) or MUET band 4, or equivalent qualifications. Exemption will be granted subject to the University Senate’s approval based on situations.

A: Research

The applicant is required to study a subject named Research Methodology, then the applicant can start the research under the supervision of an academic member of the Postgraduate Studies Department.
