Objectives

  1. The Programme Aims for doctoral degrees are to produce graduates who:

    1. Have a focused and scholarly understanding in Quira’at and its Sciences.
    2. Are competent in research with a firm grounding in Islamic principles and able to develop new knowledge in Quira’at and its Sciences.
    3. Are capable of producing scholarly writings that are rated by peers;
    4. Are capable of articulating complex and sophisticated ideas through oral presentation or discourse; and
    5. Are conscious of their professional and ethical responsibilities, and
    6. Are able to contribute toward Islamic solutions in the social, economic and cultural contexts, nationally and internationally.

Learning Outcomes

  1. At the end of programme, graduates should be able to:

    1. Generate knowledge and understanding through independent research;
    2. Demonstrate academic expertise and provide leadership on relevant research subjects, career development and lifelong learning in areas of in Quira’at and its Sciences.
    3. Contribute to research and refereed publications;
    4. Provide meaningful input and feedback in academic discourse with peers and experts in related disciplines;
    5. Promote the Islamic social and cultural progress in a knowledge-based society in both academic and professional contexts;
    6. Demonstrate behaviour that is consistent with codes of professional ethics, legal requirements and responsibilities.
    7. Carry out supervisory role in teamwork and show awareness of social and ethical responsibilities; and perform the principles and the ethics of the Quran in their daily life;
    8. Supervise research projects.
    9. Apply critical, analytical and problem-solving skills in dealing with issues at hand such as defending intellectual suspicions that might be raised against Quran and Quira’at.

Entry Requirements

A candidate admitted into postgraduate studies shall posses the following minimum qualification:

  • The applicant shall posses a Master’s Degree in a related field from MEDIU or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Any other academic qualifications equivalent to [requirement #1], as approved by the Senate.
  • The Board of Postgraduate Studies may impose additional conditions as required.

Language

  1. In addition to the entry requirements, the applicant is also required to provide a sufficient level of the Arabic language proficiency in the specializations taught in Arabic language through passing the university’s Arabic language placement test (MAPT) or equivalent. 
  2. The Senate may exempt the Arabic language requirement for applicants who have obtained their degrees where Arabic has been used as the main medium of instruction, those who obtained good grades in Arabic language programs from MEDIU or Arabic is their mother tongue.
  3. If the student fails to fulfill the Arabic language requirements (per above), or fails to pass an interview, the applicant is required to sit for MEDIU’s Arabic language placement test (MAPT).

STRUCTURE A

The applicant is required to study a subject named Research Methodology, then the applicant can start the research under the supervision of an academic member of the Postgraduate Studies Department.
